February Fun!
The beginning of February means you have made it (or almost made it) through changing CLB levels on your proficiency lists, doing reports and conference summaries, and filling out the assessment logs! So, bravo!
As always, this month is chalk full of lots of teaching topics. You might have already talked about Lunar New Year with your students, but it’s a great time to talk about personal characteristics and qualities. A fun activity to try with your students is looking at their zodiac animals and reading descriptions to see if they agree or disagree with the associated characteristics. Here is a great place to find resources and specifically flashcards on the Chinese Zodiac:

Some more favourite topics this month are of course: Valentine’s Day, Family Day, Canada Flag Day, and Black History Month just to name a few. Something which all students have great fun talking about is marriage customs from their countries. A great topic to create an assessment in all four skills especially for lower levels is “family.” If you are looking for a large collection of real world tasks, make sure to check out the “collections” , the purple tab in Tutela.
