 April Showers are Here!

How is it April already? The weather is calling for lots of precipitation at the end of the March, but April flowers bring May flowers, right?  Talking about showers, weather is always a topic of interest.

Here is a YouTube video with a good list of weather idioms to teach your students: 24 Super Useful Idioms and Expressions about the Weather in English! Weather Idioms and Sayings

Here is a link to some worksheets to use:  21 Weather idioms English ESL worksheets pdf & doc

You can also create conversation questions to have students practice using the idioms. 

For example: What subject was a breeze for you in high school? Do you have any fair-weathered friends? How often do you talk to him/her? Has he/she ever helped you with any problems? When did you last feel under the weather? Describe your symptoms: When did you last feel on cloud nine? What happened? How do you feel when it rains cats and dogs?

Some other topics you could teach:

·     April Fools' Day (April 1st): Share funny stories, jokes, or lighthearted pranks. 

·        Easter (April 14th): Discuss traditions, family gatherings, and the symbolism of the holiday. 

·        Arbor Day (April 22nd): Talk about planting trees and the importance of nature. 

·        Earth Day (April 22nd): Discuss environmental issues, sustainability, and ways to protect the planet. 

·        World Health Day (April 7th): Discuss health and wellness topics, and share tips for staying healthy. 


Awareness Months and Days:


·        Autism Awareness Month: Discuss the importance of understanding and accepting individuals on the autism spectrum. 

·        Stress Awareness Month: Share tips for managing stress and promoting mental well-being. 

·        National Poetry Month: Share your favorite poems, discuss poetry, or even write your own. 

·        National Garden Month: Discuss gardening and the benefits of spending time in nature
